Xigduo-XR (dapagliflozin/metformin) is an oral diabetes medication that helps relieve symptoms by keeping blood sugar levels under control. “XR” indicates that this medication is an extended-release tablet. The first active ingredient in Xigduo-XR is dapagliflozin, which helps the kidneys remove glucose from the bloodstream.
The second active ingredient is metformin, which lowers glucose production in the liver and prevents the intestines from absorbing too much glucose. Xigduo-XR can be used alongside diet and exercise improvements to help control type 2 diabetes. This drug is not for treating type 1 diabetes.
